India A Dominate Opening Day as Sai Sudharsan’s Century Powers Strong Start Against Sri Lanka A in First Unofficial Test

Sai Sudharsan struck a magnificent century as India A seized control against Sri Lanka A in the first unofficial Test at Galle. After captain Dhruv Jurel opted to bat first, India A built a strong platform despite losing wickets at intervals. The match also highlights India's emerging red-ball talent and the significance of the two-match series.

India A made a commanding start in the first unofficial Test against Sri Lanka A at Galle on June 25, with Sai Sudharsan producing a brilliant century to put the visitors in a strong position after captain Dhruv Jurel elected to bat first upon winning the toss.

Fresh from their triumph in the recent Tri-Nation A Series in Sri Lanka, India A entered the two-match unofficial Test series with confidence and quickly established control. Openers Sai Sudharsan and Ayush Pandey provided a composed foundation, frustrating the Sri Lankan attack with disciplined batting.

The pair brought up a half-century partnership during the 15th over as India A steadily accumulated runs. Sai Sudharsan reached his fifty in 69 deliveries, displaying patience and control throughout the opening session. However, India A suffered their first setback on the final ball before lunch when Ayush Pandey was dismissed for 25.

After the interval, Devdutt Padikkal attempted to accelerate the scoring rate but was dismissed for 12 runs from just seven deliveries. Ruturaj Gaikwad then joined Sai Sudharsan at the crease and helped stabilize the innings. Gaikwad contributed 22 runs before losing his wicket.

Sai Sudharsan continued to dominate proceedings and converted his impressive start into a well-crafted century, guiding India A toward a substantial first-innings total. His innings became the highlight of the opening day and reinforced his growing reputation as one of India’s most promising red-ball batters.

India A arrived for the Test series after securing the Tri-Nation A Series title, where they defeated Sri Lanka A convincingly in the final. The standout performer in that championship match was Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who smashed 94 runs from just 29 deliveries. However, he is not part of the current unofficial Test series squad.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi is currently touring Ireland with the senior Indian team and could make his international debut on June 26. If selected, he would become the youngest player ever to represent India in international cricket, surpassing the long-standing record held by Sachin Tendulkar.

Dhruv Jurel is leading the India A side in the unofficial Test series, which features several players either on the fringes of the senior national team or striving to earn a place at the highest level. The series is expected to play a significant role in evaluating emerging talent and strengthening India’s red-ball pipeline.

The India A playing eleven for the match consists of Sai Sudharsan, Ayush Pandey, Devdutt Padikkal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Dhruv Jurel (captain and wicketkeeper), Sheikh Rasheed, Harsh Dubey, Saransh Jain, Anshul Kamboj, Yash Thakur and Aaqib Nabi Dar.

The India A squad includes Ruturaj Gaikwad, Devdutt Padikkal, Sai Sudharsan, Aman Mokhade, Dhruv Jurel, Harsh Dubey, Saransh Jain, Aaqib Nabi Dar, Yash Thakur, Zeeshan Ansari, Gurnoor Brar, Narayan Jagadeesan, Anshul Kamboj, Sheikh Rasheed and Ayush Pandey.

The Sri Lanka A squad comprises Niroshan Dickwella, Nuwanidu Fernando, Ashen Bandara, Sahan Arachchige, Pawantha Weerasinghe, Dilum Sudheera, Ravindu Fernando, Keshara Nuwantha, Kavindu Pathirathne, Mohammed Shiraz, Dulaj Samuditha, Praveen Manisha, Asanka Manoj, Sohan de Livera, Chamika Gunasekara and Ahan Wickramasinghe.

There is no live television broadcast of the India A versus Sri Lanka A unofficial Test series in India. While broadcasters had televised the recently concluded Tri-Nation A Series due to the growing popularity of Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the ongoing two-match unofficial Test series is not being broadcast. Cricket followers are instead relying on live score updates as India A seek to extend their dominance in Sri Lanka and make a strong statement in the longer format.
